Our destiny is within the divine Seed,
the Word of the Kingdom. Across the
scope of all three Feasts, Dr. Varner
exposes twelve besetting sins that
hinder our journey (Heb. 12:2). He
defines each, shows contemporary
examples and how each operates to abort
the Seed, and tells the personal story
of how he and Joann have faced and
overcome them.
Evangelicals, those who are born again
and baptized in water, must face and
conquer three weights or obstacles:
cessasionism, Stoicism, and easy
believism (Chapters Two through Four).
Those in the Spirit-filled
dimension—including the classical
Pentecostals, the Charismatics, and the
Faith Movement—must tackle and overcome
legalism, asceticism, dualism, elitism,
tribalism, traditionalism and futurism,
also known as dispensationalism
(Chapters Five through Eleven). The
Kingdom and sonship camps, the third
dimension of maturity, the Third Day of
God must hurdle past mysticism and
Gnosticism to reach the Goal and win the
prize of Christ-likeness and the unity
of the faith (Chapters Twelve and
Thirteen)!
FORWARD
For
the past four years my wife and I have
been privileged to labor together at
Praise Tabernacle with my friend and
Pastor, Dr. Kelley Varner. When he asked
me to review the manuscript and write
the forward to Freedom
from Twelve Deadly Sins I
was deeply honored because I share his
passion for the concerns set forth in
this book.
You should give thoughtful consideration
to the words of this book, because the
Church in America is at a critical
juncture of history and needs to hear
and heed the voice of reformation that
speaks throughout its pages. The
prophetic season we are in requires that
the Church recognize and listen to the
apostolic voices of reformation that can
establish us in “present truth” (2 Peter
1:12).
The landscape of American Christianity
is littered with the doctrines and
traditions of men. For generations,
these man-made ideas have nullified the
Word of God and created a spiritual
vacuum in which a plethora of religious
systems has flourished; systems that
have no real power to deliver the
groaning creation (Romans 8:19-22). To
make matters worse, in our zeal to
propagate the gospel we have imported
these “broken cisterns” (broken systems)
to the nations; broken cisterns that
hold the stagnant water of man’s
religious ideas and not the “living
water” of God’s eternal purpose (Jer.
2:13; 29:11).
In this book, Dr. Kelley Varner sets
forth an apostolic commission and
prophetic call to clearly understand and
then abandon the doctrines and
traditions that have created these
impotent religions, delaying our
destiny. In the spirit and voice of a
reformer, he identifies twelve of these
man-made doctrines, and shows how each
has hindered the individual and
corporate advancement of God’s kingdom.
I challenge you to read this book with
an open Bible and an open mind. Let the
Holy Spirit and the Word of God help you
to “rightly divide” these matters, and
to remove anything that might hinder you
from pressing into your destiny.
